I am trying to look like Bill, hair back and all!
Maalum Cave is a beautiful natural limestone cave near Paje, and only 15mins walk from where we are staying.
"Inside is a sheltered pool of clear, cool freshwater where visitors can swim, float and explore the rock formations. Sunlight enters through the open roof, giving the water its striking turquoise colour. The cave is surrounded by a peaceful garden and small nature sanctuary where visitors might spot butterflies, birds and monkeys. The site also has shaded resting areas, changing rooms, showers, lockers and a restaurant. Maalum offers a calm, natural swimming experience and—unlike some other Zanzibar caves—involves no captive turtles."
They have signs for wild creatures, and we didn't see any. I checked TripAdvisor to see if anyone had seen birds, butterflies, or monkeys. No one had, and like us, they did say it was well kept and a sanctuary. I also tried to find out how big the property was. Nothing there either.
Here is one of the animals they said we might see. So it seems like they were 'playing with fictitious animals'. I was a numpty (just learnt that word this week) - silly to be suckered in.
Bill had done some homework and thought he could work at the restaurant/cafe. And he did.
But a swim first. It was amazing.
Bill's work office set-up at Maalum Cave after the swim.
I went to the gym again, and Bill went back to do more work. This is Bill's set up in our patio deck.
Then it was down to the beach and a stroll into Paje too, to see the sights.
Downtown Paje.
And then it was back to the beach again. A soccer game going on here.
Paje Beach at low tide.
Kite surfers still in action.
Selling.
Another workspace view for Bill.
I chose to have another massage. This time I got the woman Bill had last week. She had been massaging for 30 years. She was fabulous.
We walk back to our Samawa.
This is Asha, who was one of the wonderful people who looked after us at Samawa.
I had four more sessions with Sameer at the Kuumba gym. Here are some exercises I did with the gym equipment. He does them in threes. You do one exercise, then another, and you repeat the set three times. I usually hate the gym, but I love it here. I think it's also because there is an outside. I swam too after each session and had the pool to myself each time.
After 10 days at Samawa in total we said our goodbyes to go to another stay on the other side of the island.
